Ashwagandha: How It Boosts Testosterone Levels

Ashwagandha has long been celebrated for its potential to promote youthfulness, enhance muscle strength, and improve overall health.

In a recent 16-week study, researchers explored the effects of Ashwagandha on fatigue, vigor, and steroid hormones in men aged 40-70.

The Study: Unveiling Ashwagandha's Testosterone Boosting Potential

In this double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, overweight men between the ages of 40 and 70, experiencing mild fatigue, were administered either:

  1. a placebo or
  2. Ashwagandha extract (which delivered 21 mg of withanolide glycosides)

They took this daily for 8 weeks.

Key Findings: How It Affects Hormones

There were hormonal and also subjective differences between the two groups.

1. Improved Well-Being

Participants reported notable improvements in fatigue, vigor, and both sexual and psychological well-being over the course of the study.

2. Hormonal Benefits

The Ashwagandha experienced significant improvements in two key hormones:

  • A remarkable 18% increase in DHEA-S (Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate) levels.
  • A significant 14.7% increase in testosterone levels.

Interestingly, there were no significant differences between the groups in terms of cortisol (a stress hormone) and estradiol (a form of estrogen).

Boost Testosterone with Ashwagandha

In conclusion, this study showed that taking a standardized Ashwagandha extract (Shoden beads) for 8 weeks led to a significant increase in DHEA-S and a 14.7% increase in testosterone levels.

This suggests that Ashwagandha may have potential benefits in promoting hormonal health.
